Senate District Meetings: Speaking Truth to Power
March in Michigan, Missouri, Indiana, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Arkansas
There is some truly unique Christian work happening around the country this spring, and we at Restoring Eden want you to be a part of it! Right now Congress is in the middle of debating landmark legislation on climate change, but in order to overcome powerful opposition, elected officials need to hear from their constituents - especially from Christian creation care champions. We are working to schedule and prepare as many in-district senate meetings as possible.
While these meetings won't take you far from home (most senators maintain between 4 and 5 district offices across their home states), they are a crucial step in the work of ensuring that the voice of God's people is heard throughout the country this spring!
If you are a Christian student, passionate about Creation Care, and interested in joining this work, please contact Andrew.
5th Annual End Mountaintop Removal Week
March 6-10, 2010 in Washington, DC
Right now, mountains in Appalachia are being destroyed at an alarming rate through a destructive form of coal mining known as mountaintop removal. Restoring Eden believes that only God should move mountains.
Coal companies are literally blowing up mountains in Appalachia to get a small underlying seam of coal. They then dump the "overburden -" including topsoil, rocks, minerals, trees, and other wildlife - into nearby valleys, destroying hundreds of miles of streams. In doing so, this richly bio-diverse ecosystem is gravely compromised. But what's worse, communities near mountaintop removal sites are harmed through devastated watersheds, poisoned drinking water, damaged buildings from blasting, and increased health ailments as the Appalachian mountains they hold dear disappear.
As Christians we are called to be good stewards of God's creation and to protect our vulnerable neighbors. Mountaintop removal is destroying God's creation and hurting God's people. But with God's grace, WE have a real opportunity to help end it!
